The short course was quite successfull with 180 people from 3 states attending. Using a demonstration bee hive, flyers, bee equipment and years of experience, local instructors used the day to teach everyone about the wonders of bees; their wax, propolis and honey. Native plants were discussed for the importance of their pollen and nectar as were the negative effects of all pesticides. A drawing was held and 3 lucky first time beekeepers each won a beehive, supportive equipment and bees! Become a beekeeper, or a bee feeder by growing plants that feed our bees year round. Now is the time to order equipment for the 12,000 bees that will arrive in April for a new bee hive. The Internet offers informative blogs, videos and podcasts for interested beekeepers. The MABA offers mentors, bee swarm rescues, sells 100% pure honey from their club bees, and has informative speakers at our 7PM 2nd Monday monthly meetings; at the Agricenter, 7777 Walnut Grove Road (Concource C). The public is welcome.

Welcome to the home page of the Memphis Area Beekeeper's Association. We are a club of professionals and amateurs interested in beekeeping from the Mid South. We are all ages, some of us are senior citizens while others are teenagers. We are different races, different ages, men and women - the one thing we have in common is that we are interested in bees and beekeeping.
Some of us have many hives and others have none. I do believe that we all love honey though.
We meet once a month to share what we've learned about beekeeping. We invite experts to teach us what we don't know to teach us about beekeeping. Oh yeah, and to eat cookies.
Of course we gather locally produced honey and most of us have a little to sell if you would like local honey. Local honey is rich in the pollen of plants from around our homes. It is said that this honey is the most healthy of all.
We sometimes provide educational programs for groups in the area.

We also often provide assistance in removing bees that have invaded the area of local people. If you have been invaded by bees please look to the left in the menu at the option "Services and Products" then "HELP! I have a SWARM" That will take you to a list of people that can help you. |
